Does this mean that an individual cannot use GA to re-target email traffic (e.g. looked at X product pages after clicking through an email, or even an abandoned cart).

Seems like this would require a GA key to match to the email, thus PII. Is this one of the limitations that GA has compared to other WA tools like SiteCatalyst?TheCakeScrapshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09058325507384492065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3580069.post-52148413455094452932010-10-01T05:27:23.859-04:002010-10-01T05:27:23.859-04:00Avinash,

If they are going to shorten and share then that data is away from you.

You could possibly use something like topsy to see how often this is happening. For example this is how I check it: http://goo.gl/SJSn

But try to provide an incentive for people to use your sharing links (by making them visible, easier to use etc). I would appreciate it if Nick, Avinash, Rod or anyone here can answer it

I know about shortening a tagged link when sharing. However what I was asking how to track links that are shared from the desktop app by other people (outside of my business).

For instance, I am managing a smoking cessation campaign and people like it a heck lot. We provide sharing mechanism from each page, but a lot of people find it inconvenient to use. THey prefer to just copy the URL in address bar and shorten it themselves in their desktop app.

And apparently there seems to be a lot of people doing that and it really inflates the count of direct visit.

What to do?

@Caleb

I agree with you. I was also thinking of ._setDomainName("none")

CheersPandu Truhanditohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14606155724663432333noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3580069.post-57170405949568006422010-09-24T20:33:51.567-04:002010-09-24T20:33:51.567-04:00Avinash,

Common cases were addressed, however the MOST common case is not a missing tag or lack of addIgnoredRef, but inconsistent tags.

If you use setDomainName("none"); on some pages and a generic tag without that value on other pages, you'll get big data problems.

If you use setDomainName(".site.com"); on some pages and don't use that same setting on ALL pages, you'll get internal referrals.

So, the causes aren't simply just untagged pages but usually inconsistent tags.Caleb Whitmorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06288879095050941000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3580069.post-6577618727767131342010-09-24T09:30:17.660-04:002010-09-24T09:30:17.660-04:00It was really an informative session.
