This is part of our series of posts highlighting the new Google Analytics. The new version of Google Analytics is currently available in beta to all Analytics users. And follow Google Analytics on Twitter for the latest updates. This week we’re sharing a few new features in our Intelligence reports.

Since we launched the new Google Analytics, we've been talking to many of you about the new version, and getting your feedback. One question we got was about our goals for the new version and why we made the changes we did. So, we got a few members of the Google Analytics team together to share their stories of how the new version began, our approach, and our goals in building it. Along the way, they also share a bit about what you can expect in the future from Google Analytics.

The Making of Google Analytics v5

We also put together a second video where the team runs through a few of the many new features in Google Analytics v5:

What’s New in Google Analytics v5

You can find more information on many of these in the New Google Analytics blog series including a few that aren’t mentioned in the video like Site Speed and new overview reports. And like Sagnik says at the end of the video, there’s much more to come in Google Analytics. Stay tuned!

Some great improvements with the new features guys, well done! However, there's one change that can make analysis more awkward

- When comparing two date ranges, there no longer appears to be any percentage comparison between the two date ranges for the different metrics. Any plans to change this?

Also, good to see that when you filter results in a report, the graph changes to reflect this now!

I agree with colinf, there are some great improvements. But some reports are less accurated and detailed in the new Analytics

a few examples

1. Adsense report is less complete and you can't drill down specific pages to go deep with the analysis and see metrics by page. (Or at least is not so easy to do that)

2. When you filter reports (es: the traffic report) - in the new analytics - you don' have average results to compare with the un-filtered results. This way you can't have a complete vision of the results and metrics.

3. Segmentation in funnels has been claimed, but each time I try to segment a funnel, I got a server error feedback

4. When you look at traffic reports and look trought the goals tabs, results are orderd in a different way respect the site usage report. This is not correct because, this way you lose the correct perspective in the analysis

Then, let us ask if you have any announcement or release scheduled about the highly revolutionary multichannel conversion reports. This would reduce the need of PRO web analytcs tool for web companies.

thanks

The new v5 GA is all very good but a core feature that makes it easy for clients to understand is user friendly PDF Reports.

The new version doesnt seem to have exportable pdf reports at any level. This most important at the dashboard - new new dashboard features are great but the whole think is spoiled but the inability to export data in a presentable way.

Please, please fix ASAP Google - thanks!

The new version is great, but I was wondering when the API will be updated to reflex some of the new metrics and dimensions in V5 like path level dimensions?

Thanks

Great stuff!
What sets this release appart is, indeed, the re-engineering of the backend. Code refactoring, once the application has gone trough the test of fire for several releases, is a wonderful thing!

The front-end improvements are also what sets GA apart from other tools. Sometimes, even the minor improvements really makes it easier for us to do analytics.

It's great to see the team who built it talk about GA v5. I'm looking forward for the upcoming features! :)

PDF Export is definitely coming to the new version.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Yeah I want to second the comments regarding missing PDF exports and percentage comparisons. I find myself still going back to the old version to use those features.

Here's a n00b question which may be relevant to the UI design. How do you edit a profile in the new version? I only see lots of reports and dashboards.

Hi

Just to echo colinf point

'When comparing two date ranges, there no longer appears to be any percentage comparison between the two date ranges for the different metrics. Any plans to change this?'

I use this feature a lot so it is frustrating to see this feature go in the new version

The new Account Home tab is of no use to me. The old accounts overview showed me basic stats (unique visitor trends and totals) and allowed me to reorder the list based on this data. The new list just shows me things I never need (the UA code) or already know (the URL associated with each account), and I still need to click twice to access each account's overview.

Please make this screen customizable and give us back the ability to see an overview of all our accounts' stats in one place.
